GST Newsletter

Welcome from the Chairman

Dear Stakeholder,

Welcome to the first Gosforth Schools’ Trust newsletter. It has been a very busy time for the Trust since the first Board meeting in September 2014. I am very pleased to have been asked to chair the Board for the first two years.     One of our first actions was take advantage of grant funding to appoint a Trust Business Manager, Julie McManus, who is introduced in this newsletter. Julie has made a great start. We have been busy with conversations with potential partners who can work with our Trust schools; these include SAGE, Northumbria University, the Newcastle Hospitals Trust, Theatre Royal, Tyne and Wear Museums Service, Nissan and Science City.

We recently attended a conference arranged by schools North East for the newly formed Trust’s across the region.     This was a great way to meet others with similar aims and to develop useful relationships, especially with the other Trust’s in the City.

Another first has been the creation of a Trust Council with pupil representatives from each school council. This is a great way to enable our young people to keep us on track and to feed in ideas for actions that that the Trust might follow to improve our schools.

I am certain that we will have more good news for the next edition of what we hope will be a termly newsletter.

Hello from our Business Manager

Hello – I’m taking this early opportunity to introduce myself to you. I am the recently appointed Business Manager for the Trust.

My background is in education and skills development; my experience and qualifications are in marketing, communications and business development.

I will be working across the 11 schools in the Trust; supporting the head teachers and board directors in the delivery of the Trust Development Plan.

I am in the process of developing a website for the Trust which will allow us to communicate with you on a regular basis, keeping you up to date with the achievements of our pupils and staff and the work of the Trust.

Currently I am working on the development of partnerships with some of our local employers – looking at engaging them and their business with the work force of the future. We are keen to involve our parents in this work. If you work for a local company and think they could get involved in our partnership project please get in touch.

It’s been an exciting few weeks in my new job.     The schools are amazing, the staff are very helpful and I’m looking forward to the next few months.

Kind Regards

Julie McManus MA Business Manager Gosforth Schools’ Trust
